Who is this Conference for?

Heads and teachers involved in bilingual education who wish to network with other bilingual educators in the region and listen to internationally renowned speakers explore the latest trends in the present educational scenario.

What is the theme of the Conference?

“Making Connections”. We believe it is time to start “connecting” the topics we have explored in the past three years: new trends in bilingual education, assessment for learning and 21st century skills. How do these impact on our everyday school life? What is the role of creativity in our schools?

Robert J. Marzano 

Robert J. Marzano, PhD, is cofounder and CEO of Marzano Research Laboratory in Englewood, Colorado. A leading researcher in education, he is a speaker, trainer, and author of more than 30 books and 150 articles on topics such as instruction, assessment, writing and implementing standards, cognition, effective leadership, and school intervention. His books include Designing & Teaching Learning Goals & Objectives, District Leadership That Works, Formative Assessment & Standards-Based Grading, On Excellence in Teaching, and The Art and Science of Teaching. His practical translations of the most current research and theory into classroom strategies are internationally known and widely practiced by both teachers and administrators. Dr. Marzano received a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New York, a master’s degree from Seattle University, and a doctorate from the University of Washington.

 

Marc Prensky

Marc Prensky is an internationally acclaimed speaker, writer, educator, consultant, and game designer in the critical areas of education and learning. He is the author of Digital Game-Based Learning (McGraw-Hill, 2001), and Don’t Bother Me Mom – I’m Learning (Paragon House, 2006). Marc is the founder and CEO of Games2train, whose clients include IBM, Bank of America, Pfizer, the U.S. Department of Defense and the LA and Florida Virtual Schools. Marc has created over 50 software games for learning, including the world’s first fast-action videogame-based training tools. He has spoken to teachers, administrators, school boards and departments and ministries of education throughout the United States and around the world. Marc holds a Master’s in Teaching from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. He has taught at all levels, been featured in The NY Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Economist, and appeared on CNN, MSNBC, PBS, and the BBC. He was named as one of training’s top 10 “visionaries” by Training magazine and cited as a “guiding star of the new parenting movement” by Parental Intelligence Newsletter. Gerard Puccio  

Dr. Gerard Puccio is Department Chair and Professor at the International Center for Studies in Creativity, Buffalo State; a unique academic department that offers the world’s only master of science degree in creativity.  Gerard has written more than 40 articles, chapters and books. His most recent book, co-authored with his colleagues Mary Murdock and Marie Mance, is titled Creative Leadership: Skills that Drive Change.  In recognition of his outstanding work as a scholar, Gerard received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Recognition Award for Research Excellence and the President’s Medal for Scholarship and Creativity. [learn_more]He is also recipient of the first ever Professor Tudor Rickards best paper award for an article published in the 2006 European journal Creativity and Innovation Management.Dr. Puccio is an accomplished speaker and consultant; he has worked with major corporations, universities, and numerous school districts.  Some of his recent clients include Fisher-Price Brands, Sun Life Insurance, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Kraft Foods, Synovate (Market Research Firm), New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology and the Fashion Institute of Technology.  He has delivered creativity workshops and presentations around the world, in such countries as France, England, Spain, Italy, Tanzania, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Dominican Republic, and Canada.As a featured speaker, he has delivered keynote and spotlight speeches at such annual conferences as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the CREA France Congress, Creativity and Innovation Management, and the Creative Problem Solving Institute.Gerard holds a Ph.D. in organizational psychology from the University of Manchester, England.[/learn_more]

Nora Sabelli

Dr. Sabelli received a Ph.D. in Theoretical Organic Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, for research performed at the University of Chicago. She was Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois in Chicago, and a researcher at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was subsequently at NSF for 10 years as Senior Program Director in the Directorate for Education and Human Resources, and was on detail at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy working on issues of education, research and technology. Among the programs she has managed at NSF are the agency-wide Research on Learning and Intelligent Systems, Research on Learning and Education, and Interagency Education Research Initiative and Applications of Advanced Technologies.[learn_more]
She is currently Sr. Science Advisor at the Center for Technology and Learning, in the Policy Division of SRI International–a non-profit research organization.  She is also Sr. Scientist in an NSF Science of Learning Center: LIFE (Learning in Informal and Formal Environments), a collaboration among the University of Washington, Stanford University, and SRI. LIFE focuses on learning as a social phenomenon, and has a particular emphasis on culture and diversity.
After a career as a research scientist and faculty member, she is focusing on helping understand how to provide quality science and mathematics education for all students, reflective of current scientific advances and technology opportunities.[/learn_more]

 Richard Shade

Dr. Rick Shade is an internationally known author, consultant, and educator. He authored License to Laugh: Humor in the Classroom, a premier book, providing educators with a new perspective on the role humor plays in the teaching and learning process. His teaching background spans primary through university in the areas of gifted and talented, special needs, creativity, and humor. As a university professor, he received “Outstanding Educator” awards at the University of Wyoming and Ball State University for innovative teaching practices. [learn_more]While at the University of Wyoming, he designed and delivered an annual humor and creativity summer institute for high school students. At Ball State University he created and taught a college-level dream-course on creativity. Rick also worked as a Senior Lecturer in Gifted Education at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England. He consulted with educators throughout England and Europe providing tools, tips, and techniques designed to assist educators as they strove to improve their practice. Rick’s workshops are in demand, and described by participants as “fast-paced, fun, and extremely practical”. Patti Garrett

Patti Garrett has worked in the education field for 30 years as a consultant, author, and educator. Her teaching background encompases elementary through high school in the areas of creativity, thinking skills, and science. She taught creative thinking through a variety of middle school class offerings, including science, creative and critical thinking tools, and digital animation courses. The materials produced in this book, such as the Creative Abilities Learning Log, Creativity Scope & Sequence, and the project-based learning units evolved through her work in these various classroom settings. [learn_more]She received national recognition for both her work as a state director of gifted and talented and for the development of an elementary science lab enrichment program. She also led a successful state-wide initiative promoting both differentiation and creativity through a multi-level integrated service team. Her work as an educator focuses on creating interactive learning environments that result in the production of rigorous student work. She shares her learning experiences with other educators in sessions designed to offer innovative, practical, and engaging classroom instructional strategies. She is passionate about creating learning environments that respond to the differentiated needs of creative learners. Currently, she serves as a Gifted/Talented resource consultant with Denver Public Schools in Colorado.[/learn_more]

 Connie Kamm

Dr. Connie Kamm is a Professional Development Associate with The Leadership and Learning Center. She is also the president of The KAMM Group, a consulting company that focuses on organizational development and alignment in both education and industry.
Dr. Kamm has been active in school reform for over twenty-five years and has developed keen insights into the spirit of building positive school cultures. She is noted for her dynamic process for educational change titled Six• Plus• One Steps to School Improvement. Dr. Kamm presents to schools and districts internationally.[learn_more] Following, are the titles of her most recent programs:

With extensive experience at the university, public school and corporate levels, Dr. Kamm brings a unique blend of real-world experience and international research to her presentations. She is the author of programs that have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, South America and Mexico. She also conducts a vibrant writing workshop titled “Words and Ways: A Workshop for Writers.”
In addition, Dr. Kamm consults with educational technology companies focusing on the design of Web-based instructional management systems and digitized school improvement products. She has also consulted with educational organizations on effective employee evaluation systems.
Dr. Kamm recently completed her doctorate in Leadership and Policy at Arizona State University. Her dissertation focused on the effects of professional development on the assessment pedagogy of secondary arts teachers in urban classrooms. She is also coauthoring a book focused on building and implementing district-wide comprehensive accountability frameworks.
Dr. Kamm is known for her passion, energy, and thoroughness. She combines poignant stories and stimulating activities with sound information to produce her lively and engaging seminars.
At home, she and her husband, Richard, enjoy their five children and ten grandchildren. They are also enthusiastic about golfing, watching movies, reading, cooking, and spending time with friends.[/learn_more]

Claudia Ferradas

M.A. Claudia Ferradas is an experienced presenter and ELT author who travels the world as a teacher educator. She has run training sessions and participated in conferences in South America, the Caribbean, the USA, Europe and South East Asia. She holds an MA in Education and Professional Development from the University of East Anglia, UK, and is doing a PhD in English Studies at the University of Nottingham. At ESSARP, Claudia co-ordinates the literature courses and the cultural programme and also facilitates courses and reading group sessions. [learn_more]Claudia is a lecturer at the Instituto de Enseñanza Superior en Lenguas Vivas and at the Instituto Superior del Profesorado “Joaquín V. González”, Buenos Aires, in the MA programme in Literatures in English at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza, and the MA programme in TEFL at the Universidad de Alcalá, Spain. She is also “Asesora de la Dirección de Lenguas Extranjeras” at the Ministry of Education, City of Buenos Aires. In the UK, Claudia is a Visiting Fellow and research supervisor at the School of Languages, Leeds Metropolitan University, and an Associate Trainer with NILE (Norwich Institute for Language Education). Claudia often works as a consultant, materials designer and facilitator for the British Council and has co-chaired the Oxford Conference on the Teaching of Literature on five occasions. She has also worked as Project Manager for the Penguin Active Readers Teacher Support Programme and is a regular contributor to ELT publications.[/learn_more]

Silvia Rettaroli

Verónica M. Quintieri

Graduate teacher from INES en Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramon Fernandez”. She holds a Diploma in English Language Teaching from Cambridge University. Verónica is an IELTS Examiner and an Oral Examiner for the University of Cambridge Exams. She is one of the Team Leaders for AACI Open Centre.

She has taught at Lenguas Vivas secondary school and has been a Language I and Language III Lecturer at Lenguas Vivas Teacher Training College. She has been working for International House Buenos Aires for fifteen years now. She has recently trained for and become a CELTA Assistant Tutor.

Valeria Torino

Valeria Torino, CEO at Gazing Performance Systems Argentina. International Consultant specialized in High Performance. Taught Strategic Planning, Business Administration and Communication at ITBA. Industrial Engineer – ITBA. Belgrano Day School Alumni.

Valeria started her Training and Development career in 1998, and since then she has been working with all kinds of Companies, such as HSBC, General Motors, Nextel, Unilever, Zurich, Xerox and Bodega Norton.
In 2004 Valeria joined Gazing Performance International’s UK team to coordinate a regional training programme around Latin America.
By the end of 2006, Valeria founded Gazing Performance Systems Argentina, to develop High Performance skills in Business, Sports and Education environments, within the local region.
