Mr. Larry Ainsworth, M.S. (U.S.)
Larry Ainsworth is the Executive Director of Professional Development at The Leadership and Learning Center (formerly the Center for Performance Assessment) in Englewood, Colorado. He travels widely throughout the United States and Canada to assist school systems in implementing best practices related to standards, assessment, and accountability across all grades and content areas.
He is the author or co-author of nine published books: “Unwrapping” the Standards, Power Standards, Common Formative Assessments, Student Generated Rubrics, and Five Easy Steps to a Balanced Math Program, including three 2006 editions, one each for the Primary, Upper Elementary, and Secondary grade spans. His chapter, “Common Formative Assessments: The Centerpiece of an Integrated Standards-Based Assessment System,” appears in the 2007 assessment anthology, Ahead of the Curve: The Power of Assessment to Transform Teaching and Learning, edited by Douglas B. Reeves.Larry’s primary motivation is to assist educators and leaders in helping all students succeed by “taking the mystery” out of the instruction, learning, and assessment process.[learn_more]
Larry has delivered keynote addresses across North America, most notably for the U.S. Department of Education, New York Department of Education, Connecticut Department of Education, North Carolina Department of Education, Ohio Department of Education, Michigan Department of Education, Harvard University Graduate School of Education’s Principals’ Center, Solution Tree of Canada, Solution Tree, 21st Century Learning, California Staff Development Council, Louisiana Staff Development Council, Indiana Staff Development Council, Indiana Computer Educators’ Conference, California Private Schools, Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Diocese of Fort Worth, and the Southern Regional Education Board.
He has conducted keynotes and breakout sessions at national and regional conferences throughout the country, most notably for the Ohio’s Battelle for Kids conference, Virginia Title I and STARS conferences, the California Math Council, the California International Studies Project, the Alabama CLAS Summer Institute, the Delaware Professional Development Conference, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National School Conference Institute.With 24 years experience as an upper elementary and middle school classroom teacher in demographically diverse schools, Larry brings a varied background and wide range of professional experiences to each of his presentations.
He has held numerous leadership roles within school districts, including mentor teacher and K-12 math committee co-chair, and has served as a mathematics assessment consultant in several San Diego County school district.
Larry holds a Master of Science degree in educational administration.

Dr. Connie Kamm (U.S.)
Dr. Connie Kamm is a Professional Development Associate with The Leadership and Learning Center. She is also the president of The KAMM Group, a consulting company that focuses on organizational development and alignment in both education and industry.
Dr. Kamm has been active in school reform for over twenty-five years and has developed keen insights into the spirit of building positive school cultures. She is noted for her dynamic process for educational change titled Six• Plus• One Steps to School Improvement. Dr. Kamm presents to schools and districts internationally. With extensive experience at the university, public school and corporate levels, Dr. Kamm brings a unique blend of real-world experience and international research to her presentations. She is the author of programs that have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, South America and Mexico. She also conducts a vibrant writing workshop titled “Words and Ways: A Workshop for Writers.”
In addition, Dr. Kamm consults with educational technology companies focusing on the design of Web-based instructional management systems and digitized school improvement products. She has also consulted with educational organizations on effective employee evaluation systems.
Dr. Kamm recently completed her doctorate in Leadership and Policy at Arizona State University. Her dissertation focused on the effects of professional development on the assessment pedagogy of secondary arts teachers in urban classrooms. She is also coauthoring a book focused on building and implementing district-wide comprehensive accountability frameworks.
Dr. Kamm is known for her passion, energy, and thoroughness. She combines poignant stories and stimulating activities with sound information to produce her lively and engaging seminars.
At home, she and her husband, Richard, enjoy their five children and ten grandchildren. They are also enthusiastic about golfing, watching movies, reading, cooking, and spending time with friends.[/learn_more]
Ms. Cristina Rimini (U.K.)
Ms. Cristina Rimini is the Curriculum Development Manager for University of Cambridge International Examinations. She supports the implementation of bilingual education programmes in schools around the world and is carrying out research into the impact of bilingual education on assessment and candidates’ achievement. Her background is in language teaching, teacher training and assessment, including leading a team to develop the multilingual Asset Languages assessment scheme for the UK government’s Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Anthony J. Magaña M. Ed. (U.S.)
In the course of a twenty year career in Public Education, Sonny Magaña has taught at every grade level from kindergarten through graduate school, served as a building Principal, District Administrator, and State Technology Projects Director. Sonny has co-authored numerous research projects focused on building sustainable models for integrating technology into curricula, instruction and assessment to meet students’ diverse educational needs.[learn_more]
Sonny created and served as the Director of Washington’s first CyberSchool, a highly successful Alternative Learning Program that continues to meet the needs of at-risk students in the Mukilteo School District.
The Milken Family Foundation honored Sonny by presenting him with the Milken National Educator Award in 1997 for his work in advancing 21st Century teaching and learning in Washington State. He was also awarded the Governor’s Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Education in 1998.

Dr. Douglas Reeves (U.S.) – Videoconference Session
Dr. Douglas Reeves is the founder of The Leadership and Learning Center. He has worked with education, business, nonprofit, and government organizations throughout the world. The author of more than 20 books and many articles on leadership and organizational effectiveness, he has twice been named to the Harvard University Distinguished Authors Series.
Dr. Reeves was named the Brock International Laureate for his contributions to education. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Parents Choice Award for his writing for children and parents.
